Execution Timeline

The Timeline tab in the workflow execution panel (Workflow Studio → open a run → Execution panel → Timeline) shows a Gantt-style view of step durations in execution order. It’s a duration-first companion to the Events tab — the same run activity, laid out on a timeline instead of a log.

What Timeline shows

One row per step

Every step in the run gets a row: its name as the label, and a bar spanning from start to end (or to “now” while it’s still running). Bar color matches the step’s status, using the same colors as the Events tab.

Agent activity sub-rows

Steps of type agent_call show nested child rows for what happened during that agent’s turn:

Composite loop segments (for_each / while)

For loop steps, Timeline shows estimated iteration segments once the loop completes — collapsed by default, expandable with the chevron on the parent row. Segments are marked as estimated until precise per-iteration timing is available, at which point they become exact.

Run state markers

Vertical colored lines mark run-level state transitions (paused, resumed, failed, stopped) so you can see at a glance where in the timeline the run’s state changed. Hover a marker for the transition and timestamp.

What’s not shown

  • Generic, non-step platform events (these stay on the Events tab)
  • Steps with no agent activity just show as a single bar — there’s nothing to expand

Context tab — execution graph

The Context tab includes a static preview of the run’s step graph. Click Open graph for an interactive modal where you can pan, zoom, and click a step to focus it on the Workflow Studio canvas. Edges are styled to distinguish workflow wiring from execution-order fallbacks and from loop-body steps, so you can tell at a glance whether an edge reflects your graph design or the actual order steps ran in.
